Angels appear in many faiths and you may not realise that even Japanese Buddhists believe that spiritual beings, the Tennin and Tennyo (male and female beings), hold positions of power in the afterlife as companions to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Pilgrims often climb the great peaks to reach and meet with these holy spirits, asking for gifts and guidance on their quest for enlightenment.
