In Arabic, Israfil literally means ‘The Burning One’ and although not directly named in the Qur’an, this Archangel is regarded as one of the great angels of Islam. It is believed that Israfil will blow the trumpet from a holy rock in Jerusalem to announce the Day of Resurrection.

“And the trumpet shall be blown, so all those that are in the heavens and all those that are in the earth shall swoon, except him whom Allah will ; then it shall be blown again, then they shall stand up awaiting.” — Qur’an, 39.68.

Israfil is also the angel of music and especially where music helps to heal the mind and soul. His name directly refers to the ‘burning away’ of old habits and ailments.

Israfil encourages us to write music and songs and to sing to lift the spirit.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:  Fill today with music – listen, play, sing, whatever your heart leads you to. And while you become surrounded by the music be grateful for all the blessings life brings. This and all of creation is the music of the heavens.

AFFIRMATION FOR TODAY

“I am surrounded by angelic life, love and music.”
